Well, my MLIS applications are nearly complete with the exception of my references and the waiting game begins. I had hoped to begin in Fall 2009, but it looks like Spring 2010/Fall 2010 is more realistic, especially where finances are concerned. My goal is to fund my MLIS entirely from savings/tuition reimbursements/scholarships and fellowships and (hopefully) no student loans. This is ambitious, but I’m determined to get it done.
The general consensus among library professionals is that library experience is a must, especially if I’m seeking to break into the library field. However, it is extremely difficult to find entry-level positions that do not require a MLIS so I’m looking at paid library page and library assistant positions as well as volunteering at my local public library. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find something soon.
